The Maker Tradition: Shamanic Healing and Teaching
Louisville, Kentucky
“Just because you cannot see your own purpose right now, does not mean it is not there, or that you do not know it innately. Sometimes we need to stumble and fall, in order to see what has always been right below our feet.”
This site describes the maker tradition of shamanism and gives some information about healing, teaching and beginning practices, for those interested in shamanism and self-healing methods. The knowledge shared here is from years of practicing personally, healing and teaching in the real world, at wilderness schools, as a mental health therapist and as a shamanic teacher and healer. The intent in sharing this knowledge is that it will spark someone's curiosity to learn more about the larger world, to wonder about what is truly possible in life and what else is out there, beyond the bounds of normal perception.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism means many different things to many people, and there is great debate about what exactly the term should describe. In the simplest form, it is about learning to see, feel and move energy. Shamans move to perceive other worlds and other realities, in order to bring useful knowledge back to their communities. This knowledge is then used to create something outside of the self, which is useful to the world and community in some way.
It used to be that only a few questioned what was behind physical reality, and then only when they were pushed and driven by unusual circumstances first, but I have seen that change in recent years. In the last decade there has been an amazing amount of knowledge about the world’s history uncovered, both in archeology and through the wisdom of indigenous people who are choosing to speak openly about what they have known for many years. It is as if the earth is pushing up knowledge that was buried for so long, simply because it is the right time.
This site was created from personal experience practicing the maker tradition, which is a type of shamanism. It is a mostly an oral tradition, originally coming from Europe and then existing in the Appalacian Mountains for the last few hundered years. It is based on practicality and useful application of knowledge within the real world. If you do not connect with the information here, remember the maker tradition is just one type of a large number of ancient traditions being opened to the world today. There are many paths to follow and there is a lot of important and relevant information out there. Good luck in your search.
